SUBMISSION INFORMATION
Our judging panel scores each project on a point system. Please provide complete and detailed information about your project so the judges can make accurate and informed decisions.
All submissions must be from General/Prime Contractors who are members in good standing with the Grand Valley Construction Association.
There are no geographic restrictions.
All eligible projects must have posted substantial completion between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024.
Submissions will be judged by the Building Excellence Awards Adjudication Committee. Decisions of the Adjudication Committee will be final and not subject to appeal. If, in the opinion of the Building Excellence Awards Adjudication committee, there are no suitable project entries, the awards will not be given in that category.
Awards will be presented during the GVCA Building Excellence Awards Gala evening on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Bingemans in Kitchener.

INDUSTRIAL - Includes warehouse, manufacturing facility, power generating plant, water and waste treatment plant, industrial strip mall.
COMMERCIAL - Includes arena/auditorium, call centre, retail/department store, restaurant/theatre, high or low-rise office/hotel/motel, private (mixed use including residential - Part 3 Building Code), private (mixed use including residential - Part 9 Building Code).
INSTITUTIONAL - Includes apartment/condo, school/college/university, fire/police station, custodial facility/town hall, post office/government facility, public (mixed use including residential - Part 3 Building Code), public (mixed use including residential - Part 9 Building Code).

STEP FOUR: Project Narrative
Provide a description of the project scope that explains type of construction, size of the project, contract value, schedule and duration of project.
STEP FIVE: Customer / Trade Satisfaction (20 Points)
Provide three letters of reference for each submission that is related to the project. Reference letters must be on the letterhead of the individual providing the reference. Letters of reference can be provided by the following:
- Project owner
- Financer
- Trade contractor
- Consultant
- Supplier
- Manufacturer
STEP SIX: GVCA Trade Loyalty and Qualifications (20 Points)
Describe the process used to calling bids and awarding contracts to GVCA member trade contractors, manufacturers and suppliers.
Upload a complete list of the project team in Excel format (this form will be provided online when you reach this step). Include subtrades who worked on this project, their title, and contact information, and indicate if they are GVCA members. (If they are not members, encourage them to join the GVCA by January 10, 2025.)
STEP SEVEN: Quality of Work / Complexity of Project (30 Points)
Describe the complexities of the project along with methods used to overcome obstacles. Highlight outstanding aspects of exemplary workmanship and attention to detail. Include any innovative construction techniques.
STEP EIGHT: Project Management and Execution (30 Points)
Tell us about the leadership your firm provided. Describe your personnel management. Do you invest in your employees’ professional development? Tell us about your quality control procedures, your scheduling methods
and value engineering.
STEP NINE: Photographs
Submit 3 to 10 photographs of this project in .jpg format. Please include a brief caption for each photo. Note that you are responsible for obtaining the rights to reproduce all images.
NOTE: At least one photograph MUST be of the facade of the building and it MUST be high-resolution.

RESTORATION / CONVERSION.
This is a team award for the restoration/conversion or adaptive re-use of a building that makes a profound contribution to a neighbourhoods' character, diversity and sense of identity. There is no dollar limit on the cost of the project and this submission does not need to be completed by the General Contractor. If you worked on a project in any aspect, and feel it is worthy of an award, please complete the online form. You can even submit your own company!
