The Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) released in late 2020 a new version of their CCDC 2 Stipulated Price Contract which is the industry standard prime contract across Canada between an Owner and a Prime Contractor.
The historical evolution of the CCDC 2 suggests that this 2020 version will be adopted quickly in the coming year and likely will have a shelf life of 10 to 20 years.

Biggest Change is the introduction of "Ready for Takeover" Project Milestone

The 2020 edition of CCDC 2 is NOT a wholesale reinvention of the contract as the vast majority of the well-accepted 2008 concepts and language have been preserved intact.
The most significant change is the introduction of the “Ready-for-Takeover” project milestone. Ready-for-Takeover largely replaces Substantial Performance of the Work as the key milestone at the back end of the contract. Substantial Performance of the Work did not work well for owners regarding issues relevant to the care, custody and control of the Work. It was perceived to be the only milestone in CCDC2 with which to also deal with occupancy requirements, the delivery of as-builts and operations and maintenance manuals, etc.
This key revision as well as several other changes such as how the new Ontario Construction Act are addressed will be detailed in a 90 minute webinar.
The main presentation will be made by CCA Past President Michael Atkinson, LLB in the first hour. Michael held the position of CCA President for over 23 years and is the former Secretary of the CCDC from 1983 to 1993 (when he says CCDC wrote the contracts on stone tablets).
Following Michael’s presentation will be a 30-minute Q & A panel session featuring CCDC Chair Mark Mulholland of BGIS and CCDC Committee member Michael Assal of Taplen Construction.
